ELOC is an amateur dramatics society run by volunteers for enjoyment, creativity, and community.  We are committed to ensuring a fun, positive, inclusive and safe experience for all members - adults, children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

1. Our Commitment

  • Create a respectful, supportive environment.
  • Value all members regardless of background, ability, mental health, or additional needs.
  • Protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults from harm.
  • Respond to concerns quickly and appropriately.
  • Ensure rehearsals, productions and social events are safe and enjoyable.

2. Behaviour Expectations

All members agree to:

  • Treat everyone with kindness and respect.
  • Follow direction from the production team.
  • Communicate constructively.
  • Avoid intimidating, aggressive, or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Maintain boundaries between adults and under-18s.
  • Use appropriate language and behaviour in person and online.
  • Respect personal space and ensure physical contact is only used when appropriate for the show.

Anti-social or harmful behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone behaving inappropriately may be asked to leave rehearsals, events, or productions.

3. Safeguarding Responsibilities

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Members must:

  • Consider the safety of others at all times.
  • Report concerns immediately to a Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP).
  • Avoid isolated one-to-one situations with under-18s where possible.
  • Communicate with under-18s only through appropriate channels.

4. Mental Health & Additional Needs

ELOC supports members with additional needs or mental health challenges. Adjustments will be made where possible. A member of the team holds a Young Person’s Mental Health First Aid qualification and is available for support.

5. Designated Safeguarding Persons (DSPs)

Members can speak to the following if they feel unsafe or concerned about another member:

  • Safeguarding Lead.
  • Deputy Safeguarding Contact.
  • Committee Representative.

DSPs will handle concerns sensitively, confidentially, and appropriately.

6. Online Conduct

Members must:

  • Be respectful online.
  • Avoid posting photos/videos of children without consent.
  • Not privately message under-18s unless agreed with parents.
  • Report online bullying or inappropriate communication.

7. Reporting Concerns

If a concern is raised:

  1. DSP listens and records the concern.
  2. Appropriate action is taken.
  3. The wellbeing of the affected person is prioritised.

8. Community Commitment

By joining ELOC, members agree to:

  • Foster a fun, safe, inclusive environment.
  • Model respectful behaviour.
  • Support children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Report concerns promptly.

ELOC is a community - we look after each other.
